Quickstep is a very easy to use shareware program for controlling X,Y,Z motion from a basic
Windows PC environment. It provides first time users with a simple interface to process DXF type
CAD files into G code commands. The G code commands can be plotted on screen at any viewing
angle or zoom level. G codes can be edited and replotted and saved as desired. The G code
commands can then be translated into stepper motor commands which are used to control three
stepper motors through the PC printer port. Output signals to printer port are standard step,
direction, and enable signals that control stepper motor drivers. This program can control three
motors smoothly at ~ 2000 steps/sec with a Pentium 166 and ~ 6000 steps/sec with a mere P2 running
at 300 MHz. This enabled me to use microsteps with Gecko type drives on size 34 motors. If you
want really fast and ultra-smooth steps up to 50,000 steps/sec then read on about the new version 4
PulsePacer attachment with its own pulse timer circuit. The program runs under Win 95, 98 -Win
ME but not on NT systems. Win XP and 2000 version now available.
